R1 Construction have successfully delivered a new single classroom and group room at Albourne Primary School, completing the project for West Sussex County Council with the contract managed by Faithful and Gould consultants.
R1 Construction secured the project as a design and build scheme following a competitive tender process. Due to the tight time constraints and limited budget, the scheme was originally planned to be delivered as a modular building, however we put forward the alternative of using a SIPS (Structurally Insulated Panel System) to form the building superstructure.
SIPS offers equal advantages as modular in terms of delivery speed, but also combines traditional building methods resulting in a permanent, high quality building. This project utilised a conventional block and beam floor, external perimeter engineering brick plinth and non combustible cladding system.
Internally the building is finished with a conventional floor screed and commercial grade carpet tiles, barrier matting and vinyl flooring to the appropriate areas. The internal walls are fully plastered and skimmed providing a permanent feel, and a full suspended ceiling was fitted throughout.
The project was completed both on time and within budget, enabling occupation for the new September 2020 term.
