Enhanced site management ensured seamless coordination, delivering a modern, efficient, and future-proofed logistics hub.

R1 Construction is proud to have delivered a major refurbishment and expansion at Montgomery Distribution’s 27,000m² Preston facility. This transformative project included upgrading the warehouse, offices, and staff welfare areas, as well as the installation of high-security mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and emergency systems. A standout feature was the construction of a large portal frame extension, complemented by new car parks and concrete loading bays, all designed to boost operational efficiency and future-proof the facility.

During the project, unforeseen works were expertly managed. One notable instance was the discovery of roof leaks across multiple areas. By engaging with the client and stakeholders early, we were able to adjust our plans and carry out roof repairs while scaffolding was still in place. This careful coordination saved time and costs by eliminating the need for additional scaffold hire.

At R1 Construction, we understand the importance of efficient material management. For this project, we adopted a Just In Time (JIT) procurement strategy, ensuring that materials arrived exactly when needed. This approach not only helped prevent stockpiling but also reduced health and safety risks and ensured materials were used at their freshest. The detailed construction programme and robust procurement schedules allowed us to streamline logistics, ensuring smooth operations throughout the site.
